We all need places to gather the things we use everyday. The objects we choose for this purpose should be more than just useful. They should provide interest, even inspiration. I create pieces for this purpose using vintage and salvaged materials because of the history these materials carry and the stories they can inspire. Description
This photo was taken by Walker Evans in 1936. It pictures a roadside stand in Alabama. It was taken as part of his work for the Farm Security Administration. He was one of the many photographers tasked with documenting the effects of the great depression. The image in the tray is a map of Alabama and the shelf is edged with pieces salvaged from vintage license plates.
